An introduction to Borderline Personality Disorder

bpd-girlToday I thought I would post a document called  “An introduction to BPD” by  John G Gunderson.   Some of you reading this may have loved ones newly diagnosed , and are finding the situation overwhelming.  This document explains in very clear and concise terms the criteria for diagnosis, origins, suicidal and self harm behaviour and  types of treatment that are now seen as the way forward.   Although this document is from the USA I felt it really gives a good  insight into BPD.  Although here in the UK specialist treatment is only now becoming more widespread it is still very patchy.  DBT (Dialectical Behavioural therapy) skills training is becoming more widespread and Day Therapeutic  Community type treatment seems to be the PD service that regional trusts seem to be pushing forward.  It would br in a TC setting  that group therapy would be accessed.  There are  new specialist services under discussion and in the midst of being implemented  as the government puts more money into services and education.  Its all very positive, the future is bright !  but its early days and there is still a long way to go.
